What is Powder Coating?

Electrostatic Powder Paint is a coating method that has been used in Europe and America since the 1960s and came to Turkey towards the end of the 1980s.

Although it is very young compared to wet paint applications, it has found a wide area of use in a short time and has reached remarkable figures in terms of the quantities produced. This coating method is used especially to protect metal surfaces and to provide a decorative appearance. In addition, as a result of the developments made in recent years, Powder Coating technology is being used in the coating of glass, ceramic, wood and even plastic surfaces.

The advantages it provides in terms of environmental and application have made Powder Coating the favorite of the coating sector. Powder Coating is applied by electrostatically powered guns and baked under relevant baking conditions. Powder Coating use has increased rapidly since the 1960s and approximately 2000 kilotons of powder paint were produced worldwide in 2019.

What are the advantages of using powder coating?

Unlike liquid paints, Powder Paint does not contain any solvents, it consists of a mixture of resin, hardener, pigment, filler and additives. Powder Paint usage techniques are various. Electrostatic charging and Fluidized Bed Dip coating are the most commonly used ones. Thicker coating can be made with the dipping technique.

Powder paint has less negative effects on health than wet paint during production and use. This has been proven by various studies. In addition, the amount of energy required for powder paint to ignite is 100 times that of liquid-based paints. For this reason, they are very difficult to ignite and their lower explosion limits are higher than liquid paints.
