Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a compound that is very pale blue in its pure form and becomes colorless when diluted. The compound, which has a higher viscosity than water and is weakly acidic, is also a strong oxidizer. It is used especially in the medical field as a 3% aqueous solution and in the paper industry to give a white color to paper. The compound is also preferred in disinfection, oxidation, antiseptic production and rocket fuel production.
In the human body, there is an enzyme called catalase, which is produced in the liver to break down this molecule. This enzyme breaks down the hydrogen peroxide molecule, providing water and oxygen molecules.

PACKAGING, STORAGE CONDITIONS AND SHELF LIFE
- Hydrogen Peroxide is available for sale in 65 kg plastic (polyethylene) drums, ton IBC tanks and in bulk.
- Hydrogen Peroxide should be stored in a cool area, away from direct sunlight, heat and flammable materials.
- Pure aluminum (min. 99.5%), stainless steel (304L/316L), tantalum, zirconium, glass/ceramic are suitable materials for storing Hydrogen Peroxide.
- The use of polyethylene and PVC type materials in storage is only suitable for solutions with a maximum concentration of 60% (by weight).
- Shelf life is 1 year.
SAFETY AND PRECAUTIONS
- The packaging should always be kept closed to prevent catalytic contamination which could lead to decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide.
- Although the product is essentially non-flammable, oxygen released as a result of decomposition may intensify combustion, and therefore, contact with flammable organic materials should be avoided during use.
- In case of spills and leaks in possible accidents in the areas of use, sufficient water should be available to wash the area where the product is spread. The environment should be ventilated to reduce the spread of H2O2 vapors.
- Protective clothing should be worn as the product is irritating to skin, nose, throat and lungs.
- Please review the product Safety Data Sheet for safety precautions and legal warnings. You can request the Safety Data Sheet from your sales representative.
