Sodium benzoate, found in many products, is a type of salt derivative preferred as a preservative. This substance, which is also used to add flavor to some products, should not be used excessively in food products. It has been deemed appropriate to use it at most 0.1%. Excessive use of sodium benzoate in foods can cause serious health problems in people. This substance, taken in excess of the given amount, can cause problems such as obesity in people over time and can cause serious negativities in the coming days.
Sodium benzoate, which is used to extend the shelf life of food products, is used in canned goods, toothpastes, medicines and pickles, especially soft drinks. The amount of sodium benzoate used in ready-made foods can be written in the ingredients section of the product. Benzonic, the active ingredient of sodium benzoate, is naturally found in plants or animals. This substance, which is not considered very healthy, is found in almost every ready-made food.
Ready meals, sausage, salami, drinks containing dyes, chips, ready-made meatball mixtures, ready-made sauces, fruit juices and candies may also contain sodium benzoate. Since the shelf life of these products is slightly longer, it is inevitable that they will contain additives.
