Chemical Name: Sodium Hydroxide

Chemical Formula: NaOH

Packaging Type: 25 Kg Bags

Areas of Use:

Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide is an important basic compound used in many industries. Another name for Sodium Hydroxide is caustic. It is white in color and has hygroscopic properties. It is easily dissolved in water. It has a soft, slippery and soapy structure. It is available in liquid and solid forms. It does not have any odor. While the solid is in the form of sequins and beads, the liquid is in the form of an aqueous solution.

Sodium Hydroxide was discovered by Humphrey Day in England in 1807, but it is not known exactly how the discovery took place.

Sodium Hydroxide does not occur naturally, but it is very easy to produce. It is produced as a 50% solution as a result of the electrolysis of simple table salt. Chlorine gas is released during this process. As a result of the evaporation of water in the solution, solid caustic is obtained. It is traded in 25 kg packages.

Areas of Use

  • Sodium Hydroxide is used in many areas in the industry. It is used in paper, paint, artificial silk, detergent industries and oil refineries.
  • Its largest area of use is the chemical industry, detergent and paint are used later in the paper industry.
  • It is also used in aluminum production.
  • Sodium hydroxide and sulfite are the basic materials in papermaking. These materials are the main materials of the solution to separate lignin from the sericeous fiber during the Kraft project. Sodium hydroxide is used to whiten the brown paper produced.
  • Sodium hydroxide is used in soap making and in the production of biodiesel in the petroleum industry.
  • It is used in the chemical peeling process of fruits and vegetables and in chocolate and cocoa processing.
  • It is also used for thickening in the production of caramel and soft drinks.
  • Olives are generally softened by treating them with sodium hydroxide.
  • Sodium Hydroxide is used as a cleaning agent, the most common being sink openers. It is used on stainless steel due to its strong degreasing properties.
  • It is used in cleaning sewer waste water pipes. It can dissolve grease and heavy oils.
